Bielefelder Lehrer*innenbildung
Recognition of previous study requirements / credits and, under certain circumstances, placement in a higher subject related semester is possible. The Faculty to which the corresponding version of degree programme variants is assigned is responsible for this. Recognition follows a uniform principle throughout the university.
Before you can apply for a study place in a higher subject related semester, you must submit an application for recognition and classification.
Classification in a higher subject related semester is a prerequisite for an application for a study place in the higher subject related semester for a study programme variants with admission restrictions.
You can increase the probability of obtaining a study place by additionally applying for a study place in the first subject related semester.
You can only enrol if you receive an admission for a complete teacher training program, i.e. for two subjects and Educational Sciences for the teaching positions Gymnasium and Gesamtschule as well as Haupt-, Real-, Sekundar- and Gesamtschule, or for one subject / learning area as well as Educational Sciences (if applicable with ISP), Mathematics and Basic Language Training for the teaching position Grundschule (if applicable with ISP).
If you already have a first degree and want to enter the teacher training program, the teacher training program counts as your Second degree. If you already have sufficient academic achievements through your first degree so that you can apply directly to the M. Ed. program, you do not need to consider anything else, even if you should already have completed a first master's degree. You can then simply apply for the Master of Education.
However, if your academic achievements are not sufficient and you have to apply for the Bachelor first, please refer to the Information for Second degree.
For more detailed help desks regarding the Formalities of a Second degree, please contact the Student Office.
If you would like to have academic achievements from your first degree program recognized, please continue reading under Recognition and Placement.
Prospective students who wish to be admitted to a higher subject related semester in the Master of Education, please follow the instructions under "Approval for external / additional applicants" on the website for the approval of the Master of Education. The approval procedure automatically checks whether academic achievements for the M.Ed. can be recognized. Further applications for recognition to the Faculty are not necessary. Please note the deadlines for applications.
If you have already completed a practical semester with preparatory training at another university or a preparatory service for another type of school, you can have this qualification recognized for your further teacher training program. Substitute activities at schools or similar do not correspond to the concept of the practical semester and can therefore unfortunately not be recognized for the school practical part of the practical semester.
There are two possibilities for the recognition of the practical semester with preparatory training:
In both cases, you create the application via the online entry help (Attention! This is not the same online input help as for the listings of subjects and subjects within the approval procedure for the M. Ed.!). For explanations of the recognition procedure outside the application procedure for the M. Ed. see Recognition, Credit and Placement.
Please also note the information for the module practical semester with preparatory training.
An application for recognition of the practical semester with preparatory training is divided into two parts:
Recognition of the school internship part and the school research part.
Information on the recognition of the practical semester with preparatory training (study requirements / credits) can be found in the regulations for the practical semester (PDF).
For the recognition of the practical school part (study requirements / credits) and / or the school research part (module examinations in-depth study project A and module examination in-depth study project B: two seminar papers in two different subjects or educational sciences, which document study projects carried out and relate to the school research part), please send an application to the director of the BiSEd and submit it as follows:
For the recognition of the school practical part, please attach appropriate evidence of the practical activity which you are applying for recognition.
For the recognition of the school research part, you must explain and provide appropriate evidence of the academic achievements you have made which can be recognized for the two partial module examinations in the Modules Practical semester. Please note that this requires academic achievements that you do not already wish to apply for recognition for the VRPS Modules (see below). If you have completed a practical semester at another Universities in NRW, your transcript is sufficient as proof of the school research part and the school practical part.
Recognition of the Modules "Preparation and Reflection of the Practical Semester with Preparatory Training
There are also two possibilities for the recognition of the relevant Modules "Preparation and reflection of the practical semester with preparatory training" (VRPS):
Please note that this requires academic achievements that you do not already wish to apply for credit for the school research component.
There are various ways to become a teacher after a non-teaching degree.
On the one hand, you can have academic achievements from your previous studies recognized for the teacher training program in order to subsequently complete the teacher training program and enter the preparatory service.
On the other hand, if you meet the requirements for lateral entry, you can apply to enter the in-service training program directly. This usually lasts 24 months. Universities are not responsible for lateral entry. Information on lateral entry can be found on the pages of the Ministry of Education and the LOIS.NRW portal.
