Barrier-free research and teaching

The ZAB supports teaching staff and researchers at Bielefeld University in making their teaching materials, teaching formats and research processes accessible. The service is aimed at anyone who wants to make their content more accessible - regardless of whether it involves digital materials, presentations, examination formats or documentation of academic work. Advice is individualised, geared towards the respective needs and combines conceptual principles with concrete, practical recommendations.

The ZAB offers comprehensive support in the area of accessible teaching. Together, we work out how events, learning materials and digital platforms can be designed in such a way that all students - regardless of ability or technical requirements - can participate. This includes, for example, advice on the accessible preparation of texts and presentations, recommendations on alternative media formats and the adaptation of existing materials. The aim is to support teaching staff in recognising barriers at an early stage and creating low-barrier learning environments in the long term.

Researchers also benefit from the ZAB's specialist expertise. The advice covers both methodological and organisational aspects of barrier-free research. This includes support in the development of accessible research designs and the accessible preparation of scientific results. A particular focus is on the implementation of accessible documents - for example, final reports as part of projects ending dates that have specific requirements for digital accessibility, such as BMG-funded projects.

If you teach or conduct research at Bielefeld University, you can use this service at any time. The ZAB supports you in anchoring accessibility as an integral part of good teaching and responsible research, thereby creating more inclusive academic spaces.
