Persistent uncertainty permeates many aspects of contemporary society – from financial speculation and crises to climate change, public health, pandemics, and the sustainability of pension systems. The focus area QUAMU (Quantifying and Managing Uncertainty) advances economics, mathematics, and statistics by developing innovative methods to address emerging challenges.
These methods have relevance well beyond economics, extending to fields such as data science, sports, psychology, and biology, where quantifying and managing uncertainty is critical. The goal of the group is to combine techniques from decision theory, game theory, mathematics, biology and statistics to build interdisciplinary bridges that aid the understanding of uncertainty and develop robust approaches to tackle its challenges.
