SCALA - Scarcity, abundance and law
The Faculty of Law bundles its research under the leitmotif "Scarcity, Abundance and Law" (SCALA). The focus is on the question of how law organises distribution, access and participation in situations of limited resources as well as in constellations of apparent abundance.
SCALA combines the existing key research areas - digitalisation, sustainability & governance and housing - in a joint perspective on distribution issues, regulation and legitimation. At the same time, the umbrella structure opens up a variety of points of contact for interdisciplinary cooperation within Bielefeld University and for international research contexts.

The Faculty's academic profile is characterised by a wide range of projects and research groups, which result in key research areas. These include the legal issues of digitalisation, sustainability, governance and compliance management as well as housing. The work is carried out both in interdisciplinary networks and in individual projects, with an international focus and in exchange with other subject areas in order to develop practical solutions for current social challenges.

The research activities are reflected in a large number of thematically diverse projects. They range from the Bielefeld Procedure Days and historical and comparative constitutional research to European private and criminal law, victim protection, compliance, intelligent technology systems, labour and collective bargaining law and empirical judicial research. Promotion
