Welcome to Bielefeld University! You've done everything right with the Mathematical Economics degree programme. We look forward to getting to know you.
I, Nadine, will be on hand with help and advice for your first semester. If you get stuck, especially in the first few weeks, you can always turn to me. As long as it's nothing too crazy, I can certainly help you overcome some hurdles.
Together with the first semester support team for mathematics, I will organise your first days, which should be both informative and great fun! Are you unfortunately unable to come to the First Days but have lots of questions in advance? Then send me an email and I'm sure I can help you.
The Mathematical Economics departmental student representative committee and I look forward to seeing you!

What are the Freshman days?
You are new to Bielefeld University and may not know anyone here yet, apart from a few friends from home or school. Then the Freshman Days are the perfect opportunity for you to get to know new people.
You will meet lots of other first-year students who are all in the same situation and don't quite know what to expect. In order to take away any uncertainty in this regard, we student representatives are always available to help you. First of all, we will tell you something about the degree programme on the info day, give you guidance on studying in general and, of course, on campus. Everything you need for a good start to university life. For everything we haven't covered but is still on your mind, you will have time to contact someone from the departmental student representative committee there and at any time afterwards.
The Freshman Days, the Info Day and the Freshman Trip are organised by the Mathematics Departmental Student Representative Committee and us, the Mathematical Economics Departmental Student Representative Committee, and are a lot of fun.
Info day
The Info Day is designed to help you gain a first insight into the university. Here you will receive information from us about your degree programme and everything else that goes with it. You will also get to know the university and all its features, such as the library and the eKVV (electronic course catalogue (ekvv)).
We will meet on Friday, 8 March 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in Lecture Hall 1.

You can find out how to register for our fresher's trip in the fresher's booklet we have sent you, or talk to us on one of the first days!
The Faculty offers preliminary courses every semester, because all beginnings are difficult.
The preliminary course for first-year students is highly recommended by the Mathematical Economics departmental student representative committee and usually begins about 4 weeks before the start date of the semester.
The preliminary course is the same as the one for the (specialised) mathematics course, document number: 240000.
This is not only due to the new building and the many new people, but also to the fact that the maths degree programme primarily explores new and old content from a university mathematics perspective and that a lecture is structured differently to a lesson.
The preliminary course helps you with the transition from maths at school to university. You can also get to know many fellow students in the preliminary course, with whom you can later study in joint study groups.
From our experience, we recommend that you take part in the preliminary course, as it will make the start of your degree programme much easier!
