In 2019, the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University will for the first time announce the Franz Xaver Kaufmann Prize for Young Academics, which is endowed with 10,000 euros. The prize is awarded and honours young researchers in the subjects represented at the Faculty of Sociology at an early stage of their careers.
The award is given to academics in the subjects represented at the Faculty of Sociology who have published a second "internationally visible" academic work within five years of gaining their doctorate or who have produced comparable academic work in German or English and who can already be expected to make significant internationally visible academic contributions in the future in the aforementioned subjects.
All relevant professors have the right of nomination. Self-applications are not possible. Persons who already hold a permanent professorship cannot be nominated.
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Franz-Xaver Kaufmann is a founding member of the Faculty of Sociology, has been its member for five decades and is an honorary senator of Bielefeld University. Franz-Xaver Kaufmann has made an extraordinary contribution to the reputation of the Faculty of Sociology with his work in the fields of family and religious sociology and especially in the sociological analysis of social policy, but also through his extra-scientific activities.
In his work, Franz-Xaver Kaufmann always paid special attention to the promotion of young academics. In his honour, the Faculty of Sociology offers the Franz-Xaver Kaufmann Prize, endowed with 10,000 euros. The prize is awarded every two years.
