Studying
The Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University gives high priority to the internationalisation of studying and teaching. Our strategy focuses on two main dimensions: promoting internationalisation "at home" (local internationalisation) and supporting the international mobility of students and staff.
Local internationalisation at the Faculty of Sociology involves a commitment to an international study culture and support of the international career perspectives of our students. In order to fulfill this goal, the number of courses taught in English at the Faculty of Sociology has been continuously increasing at all study levels. Since winter semester 2010/11 the Faculty of Sociology has been offering an International Track as part of its MA Sociology programme. The International Track allows students to complete the MA Sociology programme in English or to integrate courses taught in English into their German language study programme. Each semester, the Faculty of Sociology invites guest scholars from all over the world who complement and extend the teaching offerings of the Faculty, and provide new perspectives on researching and teaching within different sociological fields at the Faculty.
The Faculty of Sociology offers manifold opportunities for its students and staff to study or teach abroad. Academic stays abroad can inspire you and help you to learn more about other cultures, as well as improve your communication and foreign language skills. The Faculty of Sociology participates in the Erasmus+ Programme in order to promote student and staff mobility. On this website you can find information about our partner universities, the responsible coordinators and the application process. Since the winter semester 2016/17 the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University and the University of Bologna offer a Double Degree Master in Sociology that enables students to graduate from both institutions after completing a two-years MA programme. In addition, our website also provides information for students who want to go abroad for an internships or as a freemover, i.e. to study at a university that our Faculty doesn’t have a cooperation agreement with.
