Sociology deals with social structures in all kinds of subject areas such as economic sociology, gender sociology, media sociology, social structure analysis and organisational sociology. The ability to look at sociological issues from several perspectives, guided by theory and methods, is a central part of the degree programme that makes graduates interesting for various professional fields.

The Political Science degree programme integrates aspects of sociological political research on a subject-specific political science basis. Students acquire skills in the assessment and critical reflection of the functioning of the political system as well as in the categorisation of political contexts in a broader social environment.

The MA in Gender Studies teaches interdisciplinary theories, methods and findings of women's, men's and gender studies. Graduates are enabled in didactic and methodological terms to use the acquired knowledge and the corresponding practical skills to analyse and reflect on gender and gender relations in professional work contexts.

The degree programme in Social Sciences is designed as both a subject-specific and interdisciplinary degree programme in sociology, political science and economics and is interdisciplinary in nature. Students acquire basic knowledge and skills in the three related disciplines and the ability to apply and communicate this knowledge in various professional fields.

The Integrated Studies for Primary Education ("Sachunterricht") degree programme offers an interdisciplinary education that aims to support primary school pupils in exploring the world around them. Students acquire comprehensive subject-specific skills in the natural and social sciences in order to develop and reflect on didactically sound teaching and learning processes and thus a solid foundation for successful teaching in primary schools.

Linguistics and literary studies, sociology, Educational Science and technology: as a student on the Interdisciplinary Media Studies master's course, you will look at media from four academic disciplines, but also produce media yourself in practical media seminars.

The World Studies degree programme addresses the diversity of global processes and structures from social science, cultural studies and humanities perspectives and is based on cooperation between Law, Sociology, Political Science, History, Literature and Cultural Studies. It enables the systematic integration of several disciplinary perspectives that complement and (occasionally) irritate each other.

The systematic extraction of insights from data is becoming increasingly important in the digital age. At the same time, the ever-growing volume and complexity of data and analysis methods is posing ever greater challenges for analysts. The Master's programme in Statistical Science teaches mathematical-statistical methods with an introduction to practical/real problems in economics, sociology, psychology and other social sciences.

The Interdisciplinary Studies of Sciences (ISoS) degree programme combines perspectives from the history of science, philosophy, sociology and economics of science studies. It concentrates on science-reflective studies and endeavours to work out and make explicit the working methods, conditions and effects of science in society.

The interdisciplinary master course InterAmerican Studies/Estudios InterAmericanos deals with social, cultural, historical and political developments in the Americas in their national specificity and with regard to transnational integration trends. In connection with current research contexts, the focus is on questions of transnationality, interculturality, globalisation and world society.

Recognition or credit transfer is the term used when suitable achievements have already been made outside the degree programme currently being studied and these are to be incorporated into the degree programme.

The application for degree programmes in the study model (2011) is made via an online input help for the current examination regulations & subject-specific regulations.

The application is submitted to the administrative staff in the examinations office responsible for the subject. All applications are decided by the Faculty's Recognition Officer.

The process for the recognition of Erasmus credits is somewhat more extensive and more reliable when it comes to recognising compliance with the Learning Agreement.
