The M.A. InterAmerican Studies / Estudios InterAmericanos (IAS) is an interdisciplinary, regional studies program that focuses on the diverse entanglements between various regions, societies, and cultures in the Americas and the Caribbean. It is offered by the Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies, the Faculty of History, Philosophy and Theology, and the Faculty of Sociology, so the course curriculum emerges from various disciplines such as Literature, Cultural and Media Studies, Linguistics, History, Sociology, and Political Science. The study program is research-oriented and addresses contemporary and historical topics from a postcolonial, transcultural, intersectional, and global interdependence perspective.
The MA IAS is also an international degree program taught entirely in English and Spanish. It relies on an extensive network of partner universities in North, Central, and South America, and features international guest lecturers each semester, a scholarship program for a semester abroad, and, last but not least, an optional double-degree program with mobility support. It is part of the Center for InterAmerican Studies (CIAS) of Bielefeld University.
