Participants in the Double Degree MA Sociology programme study their 1st and 2nd semesters at Bielefeld University before going to Bologna for their 3rd semester to study 2 modules at the University of Bologna. Students work on their MA thesis either in Bielefeld or in Bologna in their last semester.
The Double Degree programme is designed in such a way that all students may complete all requirements of Bielefeld University and the University of Bologna in order to obtain a MA degree. This means that Double Degree students – same as regular MA students - have to choose one profile of the Bielefeld MA Sociology (see subject specific regulations), including a student empirical research project that is obligatory for all students. In addition, students of the Double Degree have to complete either one module in the area of Work and Economic Sociology or in Law and Regulation in order to satisfy the obligatory courses from the University of Bologna study programme. Alternatively, students may complete their empirical student research project in the area of Work and Economic or Law and Regulation and one module in the area of Sociological methods.
Students in the double degree study their first two semesters regulary at Bielefeld University and follow the specification discribed above. At their 3rd semester, they study at University Bologna, where they will have to complete 28 credit points, which corresponds to two moduls in Bielefeld. The table below shows which couses in Bologna are suitable for which module in Bielefeld. Students must choose two courses from the green marked fields. In addition, only one course may be chosen, which is marked with "(4CP)". After the students return to Bielefeld, they continue their studies and finish them with their master's thesis.
For all studying options for double degree students see attachment 4 of the official inter-institutional agreement.
