Why Bielefeld?

Bielefeld is a medium sized city in the heart of Germany that grew constantly since its foundation in 1214. The rise of the city initially began with the trade of linen and further developed mature economic and trading structures. In the city amidst the beautiful Teutoburg Forest trading traditions meet innovation which is mainly incentivized by the University and the University of Applied Science, that form the biggest research entity of the region. Therefore today about 10% of the 330.000 inhabitants are students. They make Bielefeld a hotbed of new ideas and a lively and fun place to live. Furthermore Bielefeld is a multicultural city that unites people from 170 countries. Its central location in the country makes Bielefeld a good starting point to travel in all directions and reach cities as Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Bremen or Berlin in less than three hours.

Why Uni Bielefeld?

Bielefeld has a pronounced research culture. With almost 25.000 students the University of Bielefeld is the biggest university of the region. It unites 13 faculties, 9 research centers and 3 special research projects under one roof. Life at the campus offers many activities in sports, music/culture and groups of students or events that create a lively and enjoyable study environment. Furthermore contribute the great number of international students to a diverse and enriching environment at Bielefeld University that offers the possibility to live and study in a multicultural setting.

Why Faculty of Sociology?

The Faculty of Sociology is one of the most prestigious faculties of the country and is worldwide known. It offers a wide range of research lines. The areas Science/Technology/Media, Work/Economy, Transnationalization/ Migration/ Development, Social Structure and Social Inequality, Politics, Organization, Methods, Theories, General Sociology offer good conditions to organize the studies individually on your personal interests. Especially the faculty of sociology endeavors to ensure an international and diverse study environment. Internationalization is understood as an extraordinary important strategy to create excellent conditions for learning, teaching and researching in which all faculty members can profit from mutual exchange. That is why (especially in the M.A.) there are many courses offered in the English language, to have a course offer as big as possible for national and international students at the Faculty of Sociology.
