CIAS - Center for InterAmerican Studies

The Center for InterAmerican Studies (CIAS) is an inter-faculty institution at Bielefeld University that focuses on research and teaching related to the American double-continent.

The CIAS reflects a unique approach to regional studies in the context of the diverse dynamics of globalization. Accordingly, it focuses on topics such as comparative and transregional research on interculturality, coloniality, human-environment relations, social movements, mediality, and social transformations, as well as migration and transnationalization dynamics in the Americas. Its members include researchers from the fields of history, sociology, political science, theology, Latin American studies, American studies, literary studies, linguistics, and law at Bielefeld University.
