The German-Italian cooperation between Bielefeld University and the University of Bologna has been amplified with two more study programmes. Since 2016, students of philosophy and sociology may also complete their MA studies partly in Bielefeld and partly in Bologna, a unique opportunity shared only with the MA History and the „Intelligent Systems“ computer science study programme. The MA Sociology in Bologna is an interdisciplinary oriented programme, as courses are comprised of legal, economic, and political topics. The course offerings at Bologna are complementary to the Bielefeld course offerings, as the former focus on professional practices within sociology and the later highlight theoretical and methodological education in the field of sociology.
The double degree MA programme offers various advantages:
Bologna is a university city in northern Italy. It was founded in the 6th century, and today one can still find important monuments from various historical periods throughout the city. The University of Bologna was founded in 1088, which makes it is the oldest university in Europe. With more than 84,000 students at 33 faculties, it is the most popular institution of higher learning in Italy, and its 273 partners contribute to its international study environment.
The University of Bologna offers a wide range of services to assist exchange students in obtaining insurance, finding accommodation, and registering for language courses or welcome days and a Buddy Programme for international students. In Bologna the University rents student accommodation and holds cooperative agreements with private renters. There is also service of accommodation portal for exchange students, that is technically similar to AirBnB. Bologna has a very good infrastructure and a lively and active student environment with sports, music and cultural events. The Erasmus+ Student Network (ESN) organizes activities regularly. Travelling around Italy is also easy from Bologna. Additional information for international students is available on the university’s website in the area "International" of the university. Useful information on the Laurea Magistrale in Sociologia e servizio sociale study programme is available on the website of the programme.
