Faculty of Technology

The Faculty of Technology combines the fields of Biotechnology and Computer Science, where the latter obtains its specific profile via the research areas of Bioinformatics and Cognitive Intelligent Systems. Our highly interdisciplinary approach allows us to do innovative top-level research. We offer attractive Bachelor and Master Degree Programmes, which combine solid scientific fundamentals with leading-edge research and practical applications, two ot them taught in English language:

The research groups of the faculty work in three areas: cognitve intelligent systems, bioinformatics and biotechnology. The faculty is actively involved in several central academic institutions of Bielefeld University: The Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec), the Center for Cognitive Interation Technology (CITEC), the Research Centre for Mathematical Modelling (RCM^2), and the Bielefeld Institute for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (BIBI).

The Faculty of Technology offers innovative degree programmes with a research-oriented syllabus, which qualifies its graduates for both an academic career and professional activities in industry and business. This is enhanced by the application side of our research, which complements our teaching concept based on a solid foundation directed towards methods  and competence. Our degree progammes comprise the areas of Cognitve Intelligent Systems, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. Under the following link yo will find a list of all degree programmes.

The research groups of the Faculty of Technology cooperate with scientists and scientific institutions all over the world. Visiting scientists supplement and enrich the teaching portfolio of the faculty. 20 per cent of our students come from abroad.

The Faculty of Technology co-operates with researchers and universities around the world. Frequent visitors from abroad enrich our teaching program. International Students are highly welcome and enjoy the open working atmosphere. We organize the DAAD Thematic Network and are co-operating with many International Universities. The Faculty of Technology is co-operating with high-profile companies like Dr. Oetker, Bertelsmann AG and Bodelschwinghsche Stiftungen. Several successful start-ups were founded by members of the Faculty of technology, like Semalytix, mercury.ai and biofidus AG.
