Studying at the Faculty of Technology

The Faculty of Technology offers innovative and interdisciplinary degree programmes that combine research-oriented specialist study with key skills relevant to the workplace.

In the field of Computer Science, students can combine their degree with various minor subjects. The following specialisations are particularly distinctive:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Informatics
  • Bioinformatics and Genomics
  • Scientific Computing

In the field of biotechnology, the Bachelor’s degree programme in Molecular Biotechnology teaches the fundamentals of modern drug discovery and biotechnological processes.

At Master’s level, the Faculty of Technology offers direct progression routes from the above-mentioned combined bachelor's degrees, some of which are also available as international degree programmes. In addition, the Faculty offers various programmes leading to the doctoral degrees Dr. rer. nat. and Dr.-Ing. following completion of the degree programme.

Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor’s programme at Bielefeld University can be flexibly tailored to your interests. You can study Computer Science or Biotechnology as a single-subject Bachelor’s degree or combine it with other subjects. There are three options available to you:

  • 1-subject bachelor: Full focus on your subject.
  • Major + minor: Combine a major subject with another subject area and broaden your profile in an interdisciplinary way.
  • Major subject + two minor subjects: Combine a major subject with the fundamentals of two subject areas and set your own individual priorities.

This allows you to tailor your degree programme to suit your interests and career goals.

The student counselling service sees itself as a link between the examination office and students. It is the first point of contact for any issues relating to the timetable, the electronic course catalogue (ekvv) or your studies in general. It also offers support with completing applications for the examination office of the Faculty of Technology.

Furthermore, the student counselling service provides help on questions regarding the university, its institutions and its partnerships.

The academic advisor provides information to both prospective students and current students on the structure and progression of a degree programme, as well as its career prospects. It advises prospective students on choosing a degree programme and helps current students to resolve any issues they may encounter during their studies. It also provides information on the recognition of academic achievements and placement into higher subject related semesters, which is carried out according to a standardised procedure for all degree programmes.
