In addition to the institutional repository PUB of Bielefeld University, there are numerous repositories that are available to researchers across institutions and internationally for the publication and archiving of their works (preprint, postprint, version of record) along disciplinary lines, including:
Social Science Open Access Repository (SSOAR)
RePEc: Research Papers in Economics
PubMed Central (PMC)
The publication of articles in peer-reviewed journals, peer-reviewed contributions to conferences or contributions to edited volumes as well as a book publication is still the standard in scientific communication. In addition to university presses and institutionally published journals, most journals are published by publishing houses. Open Access publications increase the visibility and reach of academic results. Bielefeld University Library promotes open access publishing with publishers by paying publication fees and through the DEAL project.
Further information on scholarly publishing can be found at open-access.network.
