The mentoring programme movement.international is open to female doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers from all faculties and institutions at Bielefeld University. The programme runs for one year and supports women scientists in actively and confidently shaping their academic careers. movement.international offers participants a supportive and reflective space to clarify personal priorities, exchange experiences, and develop sustainable perspectives for their professional futures.
movement.international encourages networking among women scientists from different countries, disciplines, and cultural backgrounds and thereby fosters an international and interdisciplinary academic network.
The programme is built around three central components:
1.) One-to-one mentoring with an experienced mentor. Mentors support participants in reflecting on academic career paths and strategic questions, share insights from their own professional biographies, and provide independent feedback on individual plans and perspectives.
2.) Peer mentoring in small interdisciplinary groups. Participants engage in a constructive, solution-oriented, and non-competitive exchange with other female doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers who face similar questions, goals, and challenges.
3.) An accompanying workshop programme that addresses topics relevant to international perspectives, academic careers in Germany, and professional development.
The programme particularly welcomes:
• international women scientists who are interested in gaining insights into the German academic system, sharing their international experiences, and reflecting on future career opportunities;
• women scientists who have spent most or all of their academic careers in Germany and are interested in broadening their perspectives, considering time abroad, exploring different academic contexts, and finding new inspiration.
The entire programme is conducted in English. The programme duration is from September to September of the following year.
