Fellowships for PhD Students and Postdocs 2021

In the frame of the YaBiNaPA graduate school, the following scholarships will be offered for 2021:

In the framework of the YaBiNaPA project, scholarships will be offered to students of the University of Yaoundé I and PhD holders to work on one project in one of the selected areas of research below at the University of Yaoundé I in Cameroon.


Selected areas of research

  1. Bioguided investigation of plants with antibacterial and antifungal activities and formulation of pytomedicines (03 projects)
    • Plants with antisalmonella potential (01 project)
    • Plants with antimycobacterial potential (01 project)
    • Plants with antifungal potential (01 project)
  2. Bioguided investigation of plants with antiparasitic activities and formulation of pytomedicines (03 projects)
    • a) Plants with antiplasmodial potential (02 projects)
    • b) Plants with antileishmanial potential (01 projects)
  3. In vitro and in vivo study of plants with Salmonella and Plasmodium co-infection and mechanism of action of the active constituents (01 project)
  4. In vitro and in vivo study of plants with antimicrobial activities and mechanism of action of the active constituents (01 project)
  5. In vitro and in vivo study of plants with antiparasitic activities and mechanism of action of the active constituents (01 project)
  6. De-replication and quantification of molecules with antimicrobial and/or antiparasitic potential from medicinal plants (01 project)

University of Yaoundé I

for research stay in one of the YaBiNaPA laboratories at the University of Yaoundé I

  • Number of scholarships:
    • 10 scholarships for 2 years, renewable once
      • Monthly allowance: 400 EUR

for research stay in one of the YaBiNaPA laboratories at the University of Yaoundé I

  • Number of scholarships:
    • 5 scholarships for 6 months
      • Monthly allowance: 400 EUR

  • Number of scholarships:
    • 2 scholarships for 12 months
      • One natural product chemist
      • One biochemist/microbiologist
        • Monthly allowance: 500 EUR

The natural product chemist should possess broad knowledge on isolation, characterization of secondary metabolites, compilation of spectroscopic data, management of the chemical library and database.

The biologist should have expertise in antibacterial, antifungal, antiplasmodial, antileishmanial and cytotoxicity testing.

For the selection of long-term scholarship holders, the following criteria are mandatory:


Only applicants from developing countries can be funded. There is no age limit applying for the scholarships. However, in the case of PhD scholarships, the Master’s Degree or equivalent diploma must not be more than 6 years old. If the doctoral project had begun before the start of the funding, it should not be more than 3 years prior to the submission of the application. With regards to applications submitted by scientists and young academics (postdocs), the doctoral degree at the time of submitting the application should not be more than 2 years old.

The application file should contain the following:

  • A letter of motivation and a detailed CV
  • A progress report of the current PhD research work for PhD students
  • A certified copy of birth certificate
  • A transcript of results of teaching modules of Master’s
  • A certified copy of Bachelor, Master or PhD Diploma
  • A letter of recommendation from one academic Professor
  • A letter of commitment in which the applicant agrees to work on the project without discontinuation during the period of the scholarship
  • A project proposal on one of the six selected areas of research mentioned above (in two copies; one anonymous and one with the candidate details)

Bielefeld University

to do research in the research group of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry (Prof. Sewald) at Bielefeld University, Germany.

      • Monthly health insurance allowance: 100 EUR

Co-worker positions

In the frame of the YaBiNaPA graduate school, the following co-worker positions will be offered for 2021 at the University of Yaoundé I:

YaBiNaPA is recruiting one Bilingual Network manager to deal with the organization and monitoring of all network activities, especially recruitment, training, exchange/secondments, but also scheduling and planning of meetings, supporting local organizers in the organization of meetings, maintenance of the network IT facilities, reporting to DAAD, etc. In addition to the management of logistics and strategy development, The Network manager is also in charge of the programming of activities and proposes activity follow-up sheets.

  • Duration of award: 02 years, renewable
  • Monthly allowance: 500 EUR

Candidate Profile
The applicant must:

  • hold at least a bachelor’s degree in any discipline
  • have goods skills in writing scientific and report
  • have good skills in drafting reports/meetings minutes
  • have good oral and written expression in both English and French
  • be computer proficient: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as the Internet
  • have good organizational skills and high sense of prioritization and deadline compliance
  • be welcoming, flexible and able to work in a team
  • be able to work within a multicultural environment sometimes also under time pressure

Similar experience in an Organization/NGO/Project would be an asset

YaBiNaPA is looking for Self-motivated and Talented Communication Manager who will work as contractor to lead the communication. In this position, she/he will be in charge of creating informative content, press releases, articles, and media opportunities to share the research achievements, discoveries and other realization with the public. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, with brilliant presentation and organizational skills. Thus the Communication Manager will:

  • Create informative and interesting articles, press releases, press kits, newsletters, and images
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies that for the dissemination of the project activities.
  • Plan and manage the design, content, and production of all communication documents (Journal, website, video, photos, flyers etc…)
  • Prepare detailed media activity reports and validate the content of articles before publications

o Duration of contract: 02 Years, renewable
o Monthly allowance: 200 EUR
o Minimum hours of work per week: 20 h

 

Candidate Profile

The graduate school has acquired a Liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry apparatus (LC-MS) that is an important analytical chemistry technique that combines the physical separation capabilities of liquid chromatography (or HPLC) with the mass analysis capabilities of mass spectrometry (MS) for analysis. The programme is recruiting a scientist or an engineer who will be trained and will be responsible for handling and maintenance of the LC-MS unit.

  • Duration of award: 04 years
  • Monthly allowance: 700 EUR

Candidate Profile

The applicant shall:

  • hold a PhD in analytic chemistry or be a Chemical Engineer
  • have good skills in scientific reports writting.
  • have good skills in electronic and computer maintenance,
  • have good oral and written expression in both English and/or French;
  • be computer proficient: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Chemdraw, ACD-Lab, scifinder, as well as other chemistry software
  • have good organizational skills and high sense of prioritization and deadlines compliance;
  • be welcoming, flexible and able to work in a team;
  • have experience of different Mass analysis devices
  • have good knowledge of mass spectrometry (EI, CI, ESI, and FAB). Practical experience will be an add value
  • Be able to work within a multicultural environment also with tight timelines

The YaBiNaPA SDG Graduate School is recruiting one (01) technician for biological tests (in vitro and in vivo, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Animal physiology) for the academic year 2020.

Description

  • Conducting and supporting scientific investigations and experiments
  • Planning, setting up and undertaking controlled experiments
  • Collecting, preparing and /or testing samples
  • Recording, analysis data and writing reports
  • Maintaining, calibrating, and cleaning of equipment
  • Providing technical support to students
  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments
  • Developing methodology for testing
  • coordinating and managing the stock of reagents
  • Ordering and maintaining stock and resources for bioassay

Education/ Key Skills Required:

  • hold a Laboratory technician diploma or a Master's degree in microbiology/biochemistry.
  • have good experience in antiparasitic and antimicrobial tests (in vivo and in vitro).
  • patience, determination, scientific and numerical competence, flexibility, decisiveness, logical and independent mind, Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, Excellent analytical skill, teamwork skills, time management, interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills.
