University of Nicosia (Cyprus)

General Information: Cyprus is located at the intersection of the three continents of Europe, Africa and Asia. The island has been divided since 1974; the south of the island constitutes the state of Cyprus proper, while the north is under the political influence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. However, this republic is not recognized internationally, with the exception of Turkey. Greek is spoken predominantly in the south of the island, and Turkish in the north. About 270,000 people live in the divided capital Nicosia. The University of Nicosia is a state-accredited private university serving about 5,000 students.

Study programs and specializations: A 4-year bachelor's degree in psychology is offered. The master's programs differ in content and scope: an M.Sc. Clinical Psychology (6 semesters), an M.Sc. Counseling Psychology (5 semesters), and an M.Sc. Educational/School Psychology (5 semesters) are offered.

Study schedule: The course of study at the University of Nicosia is divided into a fall semester, a spring semester, and Summer Session I and II. The fall semester usually begins at the end of September and lasts until mid-December, with the corresponding exams taking place in January. The Spring Semester begins in early February and runs through mid-May; exams are usually given in mid-May through the end of June. Summer Sessions begin in mid-June, and the last lectures are held in early September. Summer Session I exams are given in late July/early August; Summer Session II exams are usually given in mid-September.
