Project duration: 05/2020 - 11/2021
Project funding: 240.000 Euro
Team Vecury (Dr. Rümeysa Gündüz Can and PhD students Miguel Angel Cienfuegos and Alessio D'Aquino) is developing a new approach to improve the physical rehabilitation of patients with muskoloskeletal disorders. Vecury approach includes designing an intelligent software to integrate VR and motion sensing technologies within a digital rehabilitation platform. Vecury project will start on May 1st 2020 and will be financed for 18 months with 240.000 € through the funding line EFRE Transfer.NRW.
Team Vecury is part of the research group NCA headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Schack (CITEC) from the Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science. Furthermore, the team cooperates with Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Vordemvenne and PD DR. med. Dirk Wähnert from the Clinic for Trauma Surgery and Orthopaedics at the Evangelists Hospital Bethel.
VECURY platform assists patients and therapists during the therapy for enhancing the rehabilitation experience and reaching the maximum recovery outcome. Vecury guides patients throughout rehabilitation and enables patients train anywhere with minimal supervision from physiotherapists. The great advantage of the Vecury software is that it adapts exercises based on goals and capabilities of the patients. Also, during each training session, exercise difficulty is automatically adjusted based on the patient´s performance while real-time feedback is provided. The Vecury approach provides physicians, physiotherapists, and patients with a high degree of flexibility as well as with objective data of the recovery progress.
