From May to July 2026, QUAMU is partnering with the ThinkTank OWL for a six-part regional workshop series across the Ostwestfalen-Lippe (OWL) region. Focused on "AI-supported planning under uncertainty," these interactive sessions address why forecasts alone are often not enough and how AI applications support companies in making secure decisions despite an uncertain data situation.

In connection with her leadership of the evaluation study for UEFA EURO 2024, Prof. Wicker was invited as an expert witness to the Committee on Tourism of the German Bundestag. The public hearing was held on the topic of 'Major Sporting Events as Tourism Magnets' and also reviewed the experiences of the European Football Championship in Germany. Prof. Wicker had prepared a statement in advance and provided information to the committee on the findings of the still ongoing evaluation study.

At the invitation of Chairman Frank Ullrich, Prof. Wicker presented the results of the evaluation study on UEFA EURO 2024 to the Sports Committee of the German Bundestag. She reported on the study's findings regarding the ecological, economic, and social sustainability of the European Football Championship in Germany. Other expert witnesses in attendance included DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Markus Stenger (former Managing Director of EURO 2024 GmbH). This session marks the conclusion of the "EURO Year," on which occasion the Federal Government presented its final report on the measures related to the tournament. QUAMU researchers Christiane Fuchs, Timo Adam, and Christian Deutscher are launching "WM-Fieber" (World Cup Fever), a new study exploring the dynamics of the World Cup.
Building on the success of last year's research, the team will officially introduce the new project at a press conference on May 28th.

At the "Wissenshappen: Klima" event at the Wissenswerkstadt Bielefeld Prof. Frank Riedel and Josephine Fandrich present interactive insights into the impacts of climate change. Visitors can rotate through engaging stations to discuss and learn about weather forecasting, climate tipping points, and the intersection of climate and the economy. This free, open-format event offered a unique opportunity to explore complex scientific concepts directly with researchers in short, accessible sessions.

During the final week of the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament, sustainability in football was discussed as part of various program items at the inaugural Football for Sustainability Summit. Participants included (inter)national representatives from the fields of sports, politics, media, and science. In this context, Prof. Wicker reported on the initial results of the UEFA EURO 2024 evaluation study and gave interviews to ZDF, 3SAT, and Deutschlandfunk.

Prof. Wicker was invited by the sports editorial team of Deutschlandfunk to a panel discussion as part of the 10th Cologne Sports Conference in the Chamber Music Hall of Deutschlandfunk. The conference addressed the topic "The EURO 2024 – a sustainable summer fairytale?", where Prof. Wicker, as project lead of the evaluation study for UEFA EURO 2024, highlighted aspects of ecological, economic, and social sustainability.
