Barbecue at Bielefeld University

Dear students and colleagues,

Welcome to the "Barbecues at Bielefeld University" page. Especially in summer, the green spaces at the university are particularly inviting for organising smaller and larger barbecue events. In order to make the process as uncomplicated as possible, you will find below some "rules of the game" to be observed so that everyone can enjoy a carefree barbecue for the project duration.

Organisation of barbecue events (up to max. 100 staff/ people)

The university does not (yet) have a permanent barbecue area. The organisers must therefore provide their own barbecue and accessories. Please note the following general conditions:

  1. Before registering your barbecue event, please check on the overview page whether other events have already been registered for the desired date and location.
  2. Barbecue events at weekends (Friday to Sunday) and before public holidays are not permitted.
  3. It is not possible to end an event after 22:00 due to the start date of the night's rest and to protect residents. In the event of breakdowns in the peace and quiet at night, the University's security service is authorised to take measures to break up the event.

Any fines levied by the City of Bielefeld will be charged to the organiser.
  4. Excessive sound reinforcement is to be avoided; i.e. the operation of music systems with amplifiers in particular is not permitted.
  5. The event location must be left clean.

The disposal of waste, including barbecue charcoal, must be carried out or arranged by the organiser/the above-mentioned contact person. Dumping next to or in the waste containers in the outdoor area is not permitted.

The barbecue area must be properly tidied up by 08:00 the next morning at the latest, and the barbecue must be removed no later than 24 hours after the barbecue event. After this time, any necessary clean-up work will be charged to the organiser/the above-mentioned contact person.
  6. If the sale of food and drinks is planned with the intention of making a profit, a licence from the Public Order Office of the City of Bielefeld is required. A copy of the permit must be enclosed with the registration (please allow 3-4 weeks' notice to the Public Order Office). In this case, please send your registration including the necessary documents to: grillen@uni-bielefeld.de.

If food and drinks are only provided at cost price, this authorisation is not necessary.
  7. The event is deemed to have been authorised upon successful registration. To ensure operational safety, please note the attached "Safety requirements". The security service will be informed about the event.
  8. For events with more than 100 staff / people please contact:
