"Course comments" are the additional information on courses that are displayed in the detailed view of each course in the electronic course catalogue (ekvv). Teaching staff enter these comments themselves (starting from the "My courses" page) and thus give students an overview of the topics covered, literature to be read, etc. before the start date of the course.

Sense and purpose of the commentary

Before each semester, students use the eKVV to find out about the courses on offer and select the courses they would like to study in the coming semester. However, it often turns out after the first course date attended that the selected seminar is unsuitable for those concerned and the search for an alternative course starts.

Thanks to detailed comment fields in the electronic course catalogue (ekvv), it is possible to provide students with the most important information for the course before the first course date, so that the "wandering movements" in the first weeks of the semester can be significantly reduced. In addition to the improved service for students, a "speaking" commentary in the electronic course catalogue (ekvv) also means a more meaningful online needs assessment, more up-to-date attendance lists and a "control" of student flows in line with the courses offered.

Information for the courses comments

Free text fields can be used to enter comments on various topics. These are

  • Participation requirements: What knowledge and skills do students need to have in order to participate in the course?
  • Requirements forthe awarding of credit points: what does "regular and active" participation entail, for example? Please note that you do not have the opportunity to establish your own rules for attending your course here; of course, the legal framework conditions must be observed. This is more about specifying the requirements for the specific event. If in doubt, please refer to the module guides of the degree programmes for which your course is open.
  • Content, commentary: This text field should enable students to gain as accurate a picture as possible of the content of the course. This includes the classification of the topic in its academic context, but also the planned forms of work, as well as the learning objectives or competences to be acquired.
  • Literature: This field should contain as complete a list of references as possible (which can also be copied and pasted into the text field).
  • Links: This field contains external links that can be clicked on directly.
  • Course language: if you click this checkbox, your course will be listed under "Courses taught in English" in the public electronic course catalogue (ekvv), which is an important orientation aid for international students. In addition, the sentence "Diese Veranstaltung wird komplett in englischer Sprache gehalten" is displayed in the detailed view of the course in the electronic course catalogue (ekvv) (under "Other") or "This lecture is taught in English" after switching the electronic course catalogue (ekvv) to English

You can fill in each of these fields, or just one. In the public view of the electronic course catalogue (ekvv) intended for students, only completed fields are displayed.

Entering comments

If you click on the "Comments" link on the "My events" page, you will be taken to a page with a number of free text fields. To make input more convenient and to be able to insert larger amounts of text, click on the "Full screen button" above the input field (see screenshot), which enlarges the text field to screen size. When you have completed your input, click the "Full screen" button again to return to normal size.

To structure longer texts, e.g. to add bullet points to lists, use bold or italics, you can use a series of simple formatting commands, which are explained at the end of the comment input page.

Obtain comments from other sources

Many courses are repeated or are part of the "standard repertoire" of a subject to such an extent that the commentary does not need to be rewritten every semester. In these cases, you have the option of either transferring comments from other courses to your own course or copying texts from the corresponding mould descriptions.

For this purpose, you will find the "Transfer from another source" button at the bottom of the comment input page, which you can use to either search for other courses or insert texts from the module description. The transferred content is not saved directly, but can still be edited by you. It is advisable to check copied content thoroughly and adapt it if necessary!

You can only access the descriptions of the modules to which your course is assigned. If your course is assigned to several modules, it is particularly important to use the module descriptions to critically check which texts are to be used for commenting. If no module descriptions are displayed for transfer, your course is not (yet) assigned to a module. In this case, you should contact the colleagues who are displayed in the detailed view of the course as "Persons to contact for corrections and room bookings".
