Identifiers for Persons and Publications

Unique Author Identification with ORCID

ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a globally establishing standard for the unique assignment of scientific authors to their respective publications. As a persistent identifier, the ORCID iD enables authors to be clearly distinguished, e.g. in the case of identical names, name changes or different spellings. It is location-independent and maps changing affiliations. It therefore helps to improve the visibility of authors and their publications.
Publishers and research funders are increasingly demanding an ORCID iD for the submission of publications or applications.

Bielefeld University Library's membership of ORCID.org has enabled us to develop a connection to ORCID for our publication server PUB. This gives you the opportunity to register an ORCID iD from your personal publication list with just a few clicks.

If you already have an ORCID iD, you can connect your ORCID profile to PUB and

  • enrich the publications in your PUB list with your ORCID iD,
  • specify that the references you enter in PUB are transferred to your ORCID profile („push service“),
  • automatically match your ORCID profile with your PUB list and, if applicable, have references transferred to PUB („pull service“).

We will be happy to inform you personally about the linking of ORCID and PUB. We also regularly offer short information events as part of the PEP programme.

Publication Identifiers DOI, ISSN, ISBN

We create and register a DOI for all publications that you publish via our publication servers PUB and BieColl as well as for your articles that appear in the electronic journals hosted by us (BieJournals).

DOI stands for „Digital Object Identifier“ and is a unique identifier and a persistent address of an electronic document or data publication. A DOI significantly improves the findability of a publication; when used as a link, the „digital object“ is just a click away on the web.

We will be happy to apply for an ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) from the National ISSN Centre for Germany for your publication series (working papers, reports, etc.) or electronic journal that you set up with us. ISSNs are also globally valid unique identifiers for serial publications.

Although primarily relevant for the book trade distribution of a publication, you can also obtain an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) from us for the first publication of your monograph or collective work.
