With PUB - Publications at Bielefeld University, the University Library operates an institutional repository through which publications can be made accessible in the sense of Open Access, either before (preprint) or after (postprint) academic peer review. More than two-thirds of all academic publishers worldwide already permit self-archiving (aka secondary publication) of contributions that have appeared in their journals, edited volumes, or conference proceedings.
In general, the terms you agreed upon with your publisher when submitting your publication apply. Therefore, you should be aware of the legal options before signing the author agreement. Information about authors' rights and contracts can be found on the information platform open-access.network.
A special secondary publication right applies to academic works that have been published in a periodically published collection. Under certain conditions, it allows the work to be republished online after twelve months (Section 38 (1) UrhG).
The documents published in PUB are accessible worldwide on the Internet free of charge and can be found via all common search options (e.g. Google, Google Scholar, BASE). The documents are linked to the entries in the researchers' personal publication lists and can be accessed or downloaded there. Each document receives a stable URN (Uniform Resource Name), which ensures the permanent citability of the publication.
Published research data is also linked to the publication record. In this respect, PUB also functions as a place for the secure self-archiving of your material.
Personal Service
We take care of providing larger quantities of documents as Open Access full texts in PUB for you! Please send us your documents or provide us with a link to your homepage.
We are happy to answer your questions personally and look forward to your suggestions.
To promote open access to scientific information, open access publications are indexed in disciplinary repositories such as Europe PubMed Central (Europe PMC) and arXiv.org.
Via Europe PMC's External Links Service, freely accessible full texts uploaded to PUB automatically enrich the bibliographic data in Europe PMC. This gives Europe PMC users access to the full texts and significantly increases the visibility of your texts.
Conversely, data linked in Europe PMC to related, cited and citing publications enriches your PUB entries, as does research data, e.g. from the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI).
