In terms of the professional orientation of the advertised professorship, you are expected to have the following linguistic skills: English on a C2 (CEFR) level as well as profound knowledge – both in speaking and writing – of another language that is prominently spoken in Latin America/the Caribbean.

As the person holding this position we anticipate your participation in teaching in all the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in British and American Studies. In addition, you are to participate in examinations, in self-administration, and to cooperate with the other sections of British and American Studies as well as the other subjects of our faculty and other faculties and institutes at the university such as the Center for InterAmerican Studies (CIAS), both in teaching and in the development of research projects and collaborative research proposals.

According to § 36 HG NRW, the prerequisites for employment are your completed university degree in the relevant subject, your exceptional performance in academic work, as demonstrated by the superior quality of your doctoral thesis, suitable pedagogical skills, as shown in your previous education or, exceptionally, as determined in the appointment procedure, as well as additional postdoctoral research achievements, which will be evaluated exclusively and comprehensively in the appointment procedure.

In the case of an appointment as a W2-Professorship, recruitment is initially limited to five years; following appointment, a target agreement will be formulated. In case of a positive evaluation in the final year, the appointment will be transferred to an indefinite W3-Professorship. The tenure evaluation procedures are regulated in the statutes concerning the implementation of W2-Professorships with Tenure Track. W2-Tenure-Track-Professorships are firmly established at Bielefeld University as an appointment option. Tenure-Track-Professors (f/m) are offered a target group specific personnel development programme that provides support during the arrival phase and the preparation of the tenure evaluation.
