Performance assessments of researchers and research institutions are part of everyday academic life. However, the question of which criteria should be used to evaluate research is the subject of extensive discussions. International initiatives like the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) call for a fundamental reform of research assessment. Within the project ARRAtools4U, we are initiating a broad process to raise awareness on research assessment and its reform at Bielefeld University.
We will inform you about upcoming events as early as possible through our mailing list:

Currently, research assessment often focuses on quantitative criteria such as the number of publications, citation counts, and the secured amount of third-party funding. This focus can lead to an insufficient consideration of the diverse contributions of researchers. Furthermore, the listed criteria is not equally applicable to all research disciplines.
The international reform initiative CoARA aims to place greater emphasis on quality in research assessment. Thus, the diverse contributions of researchers are to be recognized and perceived as relevant criteria in research assessment. Moreover, the diversity of researchers and research itself is to receive greater acknowledgement, and the integrity of research is to be supported.

As part of this project, we conducted a brief online-survey. This survey captured knowledge and personal experiences with research assessment.
Respondents included researchers from all status groups of the Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science as well as the Faculty of Biology. In addition, selected science managers were questioned. Currently, the data is being processed.
We thank all participants for their support!
