Tasks and objectives of the Equal Opportunities Commission

  • Promoting gender equality by reducing gender marginalization, disadvantages and providing equal developmental opportunities
  • Approachable for female faculty members, trans* and inter* persons of all status groups in matters of gender discrimination
  • Implementation of the equality requirement of the Basic Law and the Equal Opportunities Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as the applicable framework plan for gender equality at Bielefeld University.

Sub-targets and measures

  • Increasing the number of women in professorships and highly remunerated mid-level academic positions
    Implementation of various measures for the advancement of women, such as the appointment of women as professors and chair substitutes, the creation of new positions for women, increased participation of female staff in working groups, targeted information, addressing and recruiting women etc.
  • Increasing the proportion of women in the doctoral programme
    Increased promotion and dissemination of centrally advertised (transitional) scholarships and information events of the mentoring programme "Movement" to the student body
  • Targeted career advancement of female students and staff of the faculty
    Targeted support and counselling for female junior researchers in their career planning; increased involvement in joint applications for third-party funded projects
  • Improving the compatibility of family, study and working life
    Improving the offer of obligatory and optional courses within the regular opening hours of childcare facilities
