The research group of Romance linguistics studies the various Romance languages with a wide variety of thematic focuses. These often include not only the major national languages, but also "smaller" languages such as Catalan. Our research considers various poles between the synchrony of present-day varieties and their diachronic evolution, between the description of individual and - in keeping with the tradition of German Romance philology - the comparison of several Romance languages, as well as between different domains of variation and linguistic sub-disciplines.

The methodological and thematic diversity of Romance linguistics is also reflected in the research group.

Janina Reinhardt is in Orléans for the symposium Spoken language corpora as a teaching-learning resource for French as a foreign language (29-30.06.2023) and gives a presentation on "How to (not) include spoken corpora in French as a foreign language teaching".
Désirée Kleineberg is co-chairing the section "Presence and absence of determiners in the Romance languages" with David Gerards (University of Mainz) as part of this year's 38th Romanistentag at the University of Leipzig (24.-27.09.2023).
