Simulation persons

Simulators are specially trained (lay) actors who take on the role of the patient in the training sessions, but sometimes also the role of the relatives. After carrying out the simulation with a student, the simulators also provide structured feedback on their experience in the role of the patient. This gives students the unique opportunity to continuously improve their skills and abilities based on the re-enrolment.

Simulation persons in teaching

Simulators are used in communication training in the skills lab from the very first semester. In the following semesters, the demands on the students' skills increase so that actors are also used in more complex simulations in which communication and practical medical skills are trained at the same time.

Simulators are also used as so-called "standardised simulators" in the oral-practical examinations of the individual modules, as well as in the oral-practical part of the M1-equivalent examination after the sixth subject-related semester. When used within an examination scenario, standardisation is required in order to make the examinations of the individual students comparable with each other. The role script contains correspondingly strict specifications and reaction paths for the presentation of the respective role in the examination scenarios.

I would like to become a simulator, what do I have to do?

You are the right person for our team if you...

  • have an open and fundamentally appreciative attitude towards young people,
  • are prepared to deal with emotionally touching situations and incurable illnesses,
  • are open to miming possibly unpleasant, difficult characters or intimate scenes,
  • do not rule out having a non-invasive* physical examination carried out on themselves after consultation,
  • be interested in reflecting on experienced situations and formulating authentic, constructive feedback,
  • orientate themselves on the experience of the role character (usually the patient in the simulation) and not incorporate their own experiences in encounters with doctors into their reflections.

The simulations are an important part of teaching and require a great deal of organisational effort. Therefore, commitment and reliability in the team are very important to us. For this reason, you should fulfil the following organisational requirements:

  • You will be available to us via email, landline and/or mobile phone during term time and will respond to requests (e.g. filling in when a SP is unavailable) as promptly as possible.
  • You inform us of your possible working hours and capacities at the start date of the semester. You will only cancel the schedules agreed with you in exceptional cases (e.g. illness).
  • It would be nice if you could imagine working with us as an SP for at least 2 years.

Are you still interested in working with us? Then contact simulationspersonen@uni-bielefeld.de without obligation and arrange an appointment for further details. We look forward to hearing from you.
