Mission and development
In summer 2017, the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia decided to establish the Faculty of Medicine in Ostwestfalen-Lippe in Bielefeld. At the same time, Bielefeld University was asked to develop a corresponding concept in close cooperation with the Ministries of Culture and Science as well as Labour, Health and Social Affairs.
"Medical training in Ostwestfalen-Lippe (OWL) should be particularly geared towards improving medical care in rural areas in the long term. To this end, general medicine and networking with academic teaching hospitals and medical practices in rural areas should play a particularly important role in this project."
