Quality standards

Standards at doctorate level

  • Admission by the doctoral committee on the basis of clear admission requirements
  • Improvement of the data situation through enrolment and registration
  • The awarding of a uniform doctoral candidate status, independent of the type of funding, with acceptance for doctoral studies
  • The written supervision agreement (supervision concept) between supervisor and doctoral candidate
  • The appointment of a mediating body between doctoral candidates and supervisors in the event of conflict: doctoral committee
  • Involvement of external doctoral candidates to whom the same quality standards apply
  • Transparent communication of information and clear structures and administrative procedures

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Selection of two reviewers according to criteria of subject proximity and independence, appointment of the three-member examination committee by the doctoral committee
  • Requirement that the second review should be prepared independently of the first review
  • Assessment content: essentially assessment of research performance in international comparison, originality and quality always take precedence over quantity as assessment criteria
  • Subject-specific standards for publication-based doctorates and anchoring in doctoral degree regulations, identification of own contribution to publications
  • Disputation as a form of oral examination, assessment according to quality and originality, written doctoral performance should form the main subject of the final examination

  • Qualification programmes for the acquisition of key academic qualifications
