General information: Bern has a very international character: of its more than 130,000 inhabitants, about a quarter have no Swiss nationality. Bern's old town, which is surrounded by the Aare River, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bern is also considered a stronghold of art and culture and is home to some of the most important museums and galleries in Switzerland. Founded in 1834, the University of Bern consists of eight faculties, each of which is divided into several departments and institutes. The Department of Psychology is located in the Faculty of Humanities.
Study programs and specializations: A major in psychology and a minor in neuroscience are offered as part of the bachelor's degree, and there is also a (mono) master's degree program in psychology. The bachelor's degree is composed of a 120 LP major and a 60 LP minor. It is possible to combine any offered minor with the psychology major (only the choice of major and minor in the same field of study is not allowed). In the master's program, students choose two majors, e.g., from the fields of Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine, Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, Experimental and Applied Cognitive Psychology, Personality Psychology, Differential Psychology and Diagnostics, or Social Neuroscience and Social Psychology.
Study schedule: The winter semester usually begins in mid-September and ends in mid-late December. The summer semester begins in mid-February and ends in late May/early June.
Other Information: The University of Bern offers international students various support services for finding accommodation, language courses and an introductory week including a tour of the university and the city.
