Paths to a lifetime professorship

Organiser: University of Lüneburg
Speaker: Dr Ulrike Preißler
Date: 07.01.2026, 16:00-18:00 (Part I), 13.01.2026 16:00-18:00 (Part 2)

Anyone who aspires to a professorship must expect to make several attempts and complete the multi-stage appointment procedures, whether for a W1 professorship or directly with the aim of a W2/W3 professorship. This application phase is significantly longer than for other career goals, and not just in your own lifetime. As (time-) consuming and complex application and selection processes, appointment procedures formally represent a high hurdle. The event provides key tips for the first part of the process, the preparation of written
application documents.

Please register by e-mail to karin.becker@leuphana.de stating your name, subject area and university as well as the workshop you wish to register for.

Organiser: DHV in cooperation with the University of Siegen
Consultants: Katharina Lemke and Olaf Kowalski, DHV
Date: 22 January 2026, 09:30-14:30

When an appointment to a W2 or W3 professorship is imminent, ideas regarding the equipment of the professorship and the personal salary must be developed and convincingly presented at departmental and university management level. In the case of parallel calls, it is important to strategically sound out which university offers the best conditions. In this workshop, you will learn how to optimally prepare for the negotiation process, develop an effective salary strategy and conduct targeted discussions with university management. The consultants will share practical insights from numerous DHV appointment counselling sessions and show how to clearly communicate negotiation goals and achieve successful results.

Internationalisation does not start with strategy papers, but with people - and as a junior research group leader or junior and tenure track professor, you play a decisive role in this. Your international experience and networks contribute to how open, networked, attractive and internationally connected your university is and will be in the future. But to achieve this, you must also contribute your own international experience to university development. In this workshop, you will find out how you can set the tone at your university in order to sustainably shape its internationalisation. The Wübben Science Foundation sees itself as a strategic partner for universities in identifying, recruiting and integrating international academics. It promotes personalities who break new ground and invites them to think ahead together.
