The mentoring programme movement for female doctoral candidates is aimed across all faculties and institutions at all women doing a doctorate who are associated with Bielefeld University: with a position, scholarship, enrolled on a doctoral programme or with an independent doctorate. The ideal time to join the programme varies from person to person. Our experience to date has shown that it is advantageous when the start of the doctoral project has been made and initial questions have arisen that can be answered during the one-year programme.
movement offers participants continuous support during the one-year programme. You will receive support and encouragement in your decision-making processes from experienced mentors who will advise you on strategic issues in the academic world, report on their personal professional biographies and give you independent feedback on your plans and prospects. You will also have the opportunity to engage in a constructive, solution-focussed and non-competitive exchange with female doctoral candidates who have similar goals, conditions and questions.
Participation in the programme is equally worthwhile for targeted preparation for a strategic career path in academia as well as for an open-ended decision-making process for or against an academic career and weighing up all options, advantages and disadvantages.
The programme lasts 12 months and runs from March to March of the following year. 15 participants can be accepted per programme run.
We particularly welcome applications from people with a migration background, with family responsibilities, with disabilities, chronic illness and/or a non-academic family background. There is no age limit. The programme is aimed at all people who identify as female.
All mentees are required to take part in the programme of events and actively shape the mentoring relationship.
