“Good to know“ will take place from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in German, and from 1:00 to 2:00 pm in English.

Those who come to the university as PhD researchers or scientific employees receive support from professors, secretarial staff and other direct colleagues at the chair, in the working group or in the respective faculty. For onboarding, the event "Good to know” also offers information for systematic orientation at the university.

In "Good to know" you will receive (1.) information on how to get off to a good start in teaching and research; and (2.) information on the infrastructures, counselling centres and further education programmes available at the university.

Content

The event "Good to know" helps you to get to know committees and contact points that can already be important in the first few weeks at the university. It provides an overview of facilities that are available for employee participation and academic self-governance, for technical support, for work and information security, and for emergencies. "Good to know" shows you infrastructures such as the library, the Bielefeld Information System (BIS), the Bielefeld IT Service Centre (BITS), the medical officer or university sports.

On the other hand, "Good to know" helps you to get to know contact points and programmes that the university offers for medium-term planning of research, teaching and career. "Good to know" also provides an overview of institutions that are available to you for the evaluation of teaching, for counselling and for further training.

Target group

Researchers who are new to Bielefeld University: as doctoral candidates or as scientific employees (with or without a PhD).
