Online Workshop:

Publishing strategies: Writing better abstracts faster

Dr. Vera Leberecht | April 15th 2025 | 10:00 a.m. (s.t.) - 04:30 p.m. | Zoom-Link: t.b.a.

In the academic world, well-written abstracts play an important role in convincing journal editors and conference organisers to accept a paper for review, or to invite a researcher to present at a conference. This workshop is geared at young researchers who want/need to publish in English-medium journals and to present at international conferences. It helps you to better understand how peer review processes work and what reviewers mean with their comments. In addition, by analysing abstracts from your own field of research and by practicing abstract writing, you take the next steps on your way of becoming a more competent and successful writer in your discipline.

At the end of the day, you have:

  • discussed types and functions of abstracts;
  • analysed the language and style in abstracts from your own field of research;
  • defined characteristics of effective abstracts;
  • got to know strategies for writing short texts faster;
  • produced a draft version of an abstract or similar short text
