After completing their doctoral studies young researchers do not only have the academic title as Dr or PhD, but have also acquired skills which allow them to pursue different career paths in science, society and industry. Postdocs have lots of options - and are thus spoilt for choice: Which new pathway do I want to take now?
The event "Doctorate - and what's next?" will give you valuable insights into the wide variety of career paths after your doctorate and wants to support you in discovering you own career aspirations.
In short keynote speeches postdocs, who work in different fields today, will tell you about their career paths and about the challenges that shaped and influenced them: What was the added value of an occupation in the industry for a later job as professor? Can I combine a rich family life with a successful career in science? Which kind of further training can I attend and qualify for the competitive job market?

After the keynote speeches there will be an open panel discussion with the postdocs, Julia Koppmann (Career Service) and Iris Brune (Service Center for Young Researchers). You will have the opportunity to ask our guests about their career paths. We want have an open discussion about career planning and professional aims: How much can I influence my career by my own decisions? How much is determined by blind chance?
At an informal get-together after the panel discussion you will have the chance to engage in a casual conversation over a cup of coffee with those people, whose career paths you are especially interested in.
