The Faculty of Physics at Bielefeld University is seeking to fill the following professorship at the earliest possible date:

Professorship in Experimental Physics with a focus on Medical Physics and/or Biophysics (W1 TT W3 or W2 TT W3)

We are looking for an internationally visible candidate with an independent and experiment oriented research profile in the field of (Bio)Medical Physics. As a physicist or medical physicist, you are studying fundamental biomedical mechanisms on the molecular, cellular, or organ level. Besides the application and development of physical principles and methods you are concerned with clinical applications and are able to cover experimental physics in teaching across its entire spectrum. We particularly expect you to take a leading role in the planned development of a Master's program in Medical Physics, in close, interdisciplinary collaboration with the recently founded Medical Faculty, the affiliated hospital network, and other involved faculties, as well as an active participation in the general teaching duties of the Faculty of Physics.

Formal preconditions for employment according to § 36 HG NRW are a university degree in a pertinent subject, special ability for scientific work, to be proven by quality of the doctorate, educational aptitude which is proven by appropriate previous training or, in exceptional cases, determined in the appointment process, as well as additional scientific achievements, which are to be assessed exclusively and comprehensively during the appointment process.

The appointment as a W1 professor is initially limited to 3 years, with the possibility of extension for a further 3 years after a positive interim evaluation. In the event of a positive tenure evaluation in the last year, the subsequent transfer to a permanent W3 professorship is planned.
In the case of a W2 professorship, the appointment is initially limited to five years; after appointment, a target agreement is formulated. If the evaluation is positive in the final year, the appointment is converted into a permanent W3 professorship.

The interim/tenure evaluations are regulated in the statutes for quality assurance of professorships with tenure track (TT). Tenure track professorships are firmly established as an equal appointment option at Bielefeld University. Tenure-track professors are offered a target group-specific personnel development programme that provides support during the arrival phase and in preparation for the interim and tenure evaluation.

Applications from suitable severely disabled people and disabled people of equal status are welcome.

Bielefeld University has received several awards for its successes in gender equality and is certified as a family-friendly university. We explicitly encourage applications from women, particularly for scientific positions. Applications are treated in accordance with the state law for equal opportunities. Family times will be considered in the context of the selection decision.

The Faculty of Physics considers gender equality to be an important task, in the implementation of which shall be supported by the future position holder. Bielefeld University supports dual-career constellations to establish a common centre of life and work.

Applications should consist of: cover letter, CV, list of research activities and third-party funding acquired so far, publication list with up to ten publications highlighted as “most important”, two-page research and teaching concept, list of courses held and other proof of teaching competence, copies of academic certificates.
