At Bielefeld University, scientists representing a wide variety of perspectives work together in an interdisciplinary way to ensure innovative research and teaching at the highest level. Bielefeld University comprises 14 faculties, including natural and technical sciences and medicine, with about 3,500 employees and 25,000 students. The School of Public Health at Bielefeld University is unique in Germany. With its eight working groups, its interdisciplinary research covers all central areas of public health.
The future professor should be nationally and internationally recognised in the field of the sociological foundations of public health or social science research areas relevant to health sociology. Research topics with high public health relevance are expected. Possible areas of focus include health systems research, health policy, international comparative health systems research and "work and health" (occupational health and safety, occupational health management or workplace health promotion).
We are looking for social scientists (e.g. sociologists or political scientists) specialising in health and public health, as well as related disciplines. Excellent academic achievements in teaching, internationally recognised experience in empirical health research and success in acquiring third-party funded projects are expected. The successful candidate will be characterised by broad interdisciplinary research achievements in the subject, high-ranking scientific publications and extensive project experience. The candidate will have a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration both within the School of Public Health and with other faculties at Bielefeld University. Active participation in the scientific development of public health both at the School of Public Health and at the national and international level is expected.
The future professor will participate in teaching for all degree programmes at the School of Public Health. It is expected that they candidate will be able to offer courses in German. Applicants for whom German is not a native language should be able to teach courses in German within three years.
Recruitment requirements for the advertised professorship are a completed university degree in a relevant field and the further academic achievements outlined in § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG-NRW). Extensive experience in academic teaching and a commitment to academic self-administration are also expected. Gender and diversity competence as well as proven qualifications in university didactics and personnel management are desirable. The teaching load comprises a total of 9 LVS in accordance with § 3 (1) (1) LVV.
