The Medical School OWL and the University Medical Center OWL (UMC OWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are a young, innovative location under construction. We are looking for individuals who understand this development situation as an opportunity to create and actively shape research, teaching, health care, and organization together with us. You will be significantly involved in implementing our model study program in human medicine and can contribute innovative ideas for teaching. Our career support programs, as well as our research support programs that aim at interdisciplinary cooperation, offer a wide range of development opportunities. At the same time, we give you a special opportunity to participate in the design of the research profile “Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses”.
The call is targeting both individuals with a promisingly national and international profile (W2 TT W3) and individuals with an already established national and international profile (W3) who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care comprehensively.

With two locations for the treatment of somatic diseases and a broad-based medical services center (MVZ) structure, Klinikum Lippe is the sole acute care provider in the district of Lippe (350.000 inhabitants) and treats 50.000 inpatients and 150.000 outpatients every year.
As the holder of this position, you will be Director of the Institute of Clinical Pathology at Klinikum Lippe with its 30 specialist departments and over 1,200 beds. The institute examines a wide range of pathological material from almost all disciplines of conservative and surgical medicine from the inpatient and outpatient area.
Pathology is part of the Oncology Centre at Klinikum Lippe, integrated into the interdisciplinary oncology department and working in partnership with doctors in private practice. This interdisciplinarity is also practised in a total of 13 special outpatient clinics in accordance with ASV- 116b SGB V, also with the involvement of practising specialists.
An MVZ has been affiliated to the Institute of Clinical Pathology since 2019. An extensive spectrum of histological and cytological analysis with all common morphological technologies is available. A W2 professorship for Molecular Pathology is currently being prepared, with the post holder heading the Molecular Pathology section at the institute. Together with the Molecular Pathology and the Institute of Laboratory Medicine, your tasks will include the development and establishment of a center for diagnostics at Klinikum Lippe and the UK OWL
We expect close collaboration with other departments of the UMC OWL, other faculties of Bielefeld University, and the medical community in private practice in the region. Therefore, we are looking for an individual with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field of Clinical Pathology along with excellent communication and coordination skills.

A private-law employment contract with the University is envisaged for the performance of the duties of the professorship. The requirements for employment follow § 36 HG. The tasks within patient care, including the right to liquidation, will be regulated via a contract for chief physicians with the Klinikum Lippe.
The W2 tenure variant is initially limited to five years; after appointment, a target agreement is formulated. If the evaluation is positive in the final year, the appointment is converted into a permanent W3 professorship. Tenure evaluations are regulated in the statute for quality assurance of professorships with tenure track (TT). Tenure-track professorships are firmly established at Bielefeld University as an equal tenure option. Tenure-track professors are offered a target-group- specific personnel development programme that provides support during the arrival phase and in preparation for the tenure evaluation.
