The Medical School OWL and the University Medical Center OWL (UMC OWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB) and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are a young, innovative location under development. We are looking for individuals who understand this development situation as an opportunity to create and actively shape research, teaching, health care and organization together with us. You will be significantly involved in implementing our model study programme in human medicine and can contribute innovative ideas for teaching. Our career support programs, as well as our research support programs that aim at interdisciplinary cooperation, offer a wide range of development opportunities.

The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill a

Professorship for Neurodevelopment Disorders Focus Internal Medicine (W1 TT W2 / W2 TT W2 / W2)

as well as a

Professorship for Inclusive Mental Health (W1 TT W2 / W2 TT W2 / W2)

at the Department for People with Neurodevelopmental Disorders at Campus Bielefeld- Bethel (CBB) as soon as possible.

At Germany's only Department for People with Neurodevelopmental Disorders (UKIM, Universitätsklinik für Inklusive Medizin), you will have the opportunity to play a substantial role in the development of a research profile ‘Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses’ that is competitive and interconnectable on a national and international level. The UKIM at the Bielefeld-Bethel Campus (CBB) is the center of medical care for people with disabilities and intellectual development disorders. With an interdisciplinary and multi- professional collaboration of internists, surgeons, psychiatrists, and neurologists, as well as close links with medical in private practice and therapeutic colleagues, the numerous services offered by integration assistance and regional and supra-regional specialist associations and committees, the UKIM has a complex somatic and psychiatric treatment offering. In cooperation with neighboring disciplines and faculties, such as public health, nursing sciences and psychology, the aim is to identify effective factors of holistic medical care for people with disabilities and intellectual development disorders and to develop models for a barrier-free, fluid, and networked healthcare system.

Each call is targeting individuals in an early career stage with outstanding scientific potential (W1 TT W2) or an promisingly (inter)national profile (W2 TT W2 / W2) who can represent each field of expertise in research, teaching and patient care respective appropriate (W1 TT W2) or comprehensively (W2 TT W2 / W2).

qualifications required for both positions

  • a qualified, relevant doctorate (W1 TT W2) or a relevant doctorate/PhD studies and additional scientific achievements in accordance with § 36 Para. 1; No. 4 HG NRW (W2 TT W2 / W2)
  • very well (W2 TT W2 / W2) scientific achievements in clinical and non-clinical research in the area of expertise, demonstrated through corresponding publications
  • experience as project manager and experience in the successful acquisition of (competitive) third-party funding (W2 TT W2 / W2)
  • alignment with the research profile of the Medical School OWL
  • teaching experience and experience with innovative teaching formats in the subject to be represented (Professorship for Inclusive Mental Health: psychiatry or psychology)
  • experience and active participation in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists

also desired for both positions are

  • initial experience in the acquisition and organization of third-party funding or third-party funded projects (W1 TT W2)

We expect close collaboration with other departments of the UMC OWL, other faculties of Bielefeld University, and the medical community in private practice as well as in psychotherapy in the region. Therefore, we are looking for an individual with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field along with excellent communication and coordination skills.

As the holder of this position, you should also be willing to address gender and diversity-related issues to improve healthcare practice.

The position is associated with a senior physician position.

additional qualifications required for the position are

  • degree in human medicine (licence to practice)
  • specialist qualification for internal medicine or general medicine
  • broad clinical experience in the field of internal medicine or general medicine
  • clinical experience in working with people with a physical or cognitive impairment
  • experience in cooperating with integration assistance services

also desired are

  • participation in scientific organizations/committees for people with disabilities
  • international co-operation experience (W1 TT W2)

We invite you to further develop and implement clinical research and health services research within the framework of a structural and development concept for the UKIM that you will be involved in. You are expected to develop and expand clinical-translational and health services research in the physical health of people with intellectual development disorders. The inclusion of people with disabilities and their families and support systems is central to this. In addition to people with congenital disabilities, the group of people with acquired cognitive disabilities should also be addressed.

Professorship for Inclusive Mental Health (W1 TT W2 / W2 TT W2 / W2)

The position is associated with a senior medical or senior psychological position.

additional qualifications required for the position are

  • degree in psychology or clinical psychology and pschotherapy (diploma/master) or human medicine (licence to practice)
  • clinical experience in the area of expertise of clinical psychology, psychotherapy or psychiatry
  • experience in planning and conducting scientific studies

also desired are

  • experience in mental health for staff, people with disabilities
  • additional qualification in psychotherapy (psychological or medical)
  • experience in cooperating with clinically active medical and psychological colleagues in the psychiatric and neuroscientific areas of expertise
  • participation in scientific professional societies/committees
  • psychotherapeutic training started or completed

We invite you to further develop the scientific and clinical work at the UKIM in terms of content and structure. The focus will be on issues relating to the mental health and participation of people with disabilities. The aim is to maximize health and social participation, considering the functionally relevant disability and the respective living environments and goals. This approach, which is based on systemic therapy and intervention research, is to be structurally anchored and improve the local and supra-regional medical care landscape for people with disabilities.

The requirements for employment follow § 36 HG. The tasks within patient care will be regulated via a contract with the EvKB.

The appointment if filled as a W1 professorship is initially limited to three years with an option of extension for a further three years following a positive interim evaluation. The W2 tenure variant is initially limited to 5 years; after appointment, a target agreement will be formulated. In case of a positive tenure evaluation in the final year, the appointment will be transferred to an indefinite W2 professorship. The interim/tenure evaluation procedure is regulated in the statute for quality assurance of professorships with tenure track (TT). Tenure-track professorships are firmly established at Bielefeld University as an equal tenure option. Tenure- track professors are offered a target-group-specific personnel development program that provides support during the arrival phase and in preparation for the interim and tenure evaluation.
