The Faculty of Sociology invites applications for a

W3-Professorship for Social Anthropology

to be filled as soon as possible.

A research profile is expected that focusses on the analysis of non-Western societies in the context of regional and global developments and with reference to theories of world society and globalization. Previous research has focussed on Vietnam, China and Southeast Asia. The thematic focus of the research lies in the areas of labour, welfare and mobility. The successful acquisition of an ERC grant for a thematically relevant project is expected.

Outstanding academic achievements in research and teaching, which will be assessed exclusively and comprehensively in the appointment procedure, are a prerequisite for appointment.

The applicant is characterised by outstanding research achievements in the field of social anthropology and has high-ranking scientific publications and extensive project experience. The future post holder will have a strong interest in interdisciplinary cooperation both within the faculty and with other faculties at Bielefeld University. An active contribution to the academic development of social anthropology and the social sciences both at the faculty and at national and international level is expected.

Teaching is provided in all BA and MA degree programmes and the doctoral programme of the Faculty of Sociology (BGHS).  Applicants must have a university degree as well as additional relevant academic achievements that are required for appointment to a professorship in accordance with § 36 HG NW. Extensive experience in academic teaching and commitment to academic self-administration are also required. Gender and diversity competence as well as proven qualifications in university didactics and personnel management are desirable.
