The Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science at Bielefeld University is seeking to fill the following position at the earliest possible date:

Lotte-Köhler-Foundation Junior Professorship for Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (W1) - accompanied by Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft e.V. -

for an initial duration of three years (after successful interim evaluation for a further three years). Following the junior professorship, a fixed-term W2 professorship (5 years) with the same specialisation will be advertised. The department would like the holder of the junior professorship to apply for the fixed-term W2 professorship.

The junior professorship is structurally anchored in the Department of Psychology with a focus on "Human Experience and Behaviour in Clinical Contexts". The following thematic specialisations in research, teaching and practice are to be developed (and in some cases already represented):

(1) Psychodynamically orientated impact and process research, also supplemented by basic psychodynamic research

(2) Psychodynamic understanding of therapeutic competence (research and teaching of basic psychodynamic attitudes, methods and technologies),

(3) Discussion of content and positioning from a psychodynamic perspective in relation to the increasing development and representation of integrative psychotherapy models in clinical psychotherapy.

The applicant must have a corresponding profile in research and teaching in the field of psychodynamic psychotherapy, which is demonstrated by relevant national and international publications and empirical research.

Familiarity and identification with psychodynamic approaches including clinical-practical experience is expected. We are looking for a person who is enthusiastic about psychodynamic theories and at the same time open and appreciative of colleagues who pursue other approaches, and who works in a practically sound manner. Therefore, a licence to practise (or advanced training) with a specialist qualification in psychodynamic psychotherapy is required.

The integration of the junior professorship into the profile-giving research structure of Bielefeld University is expected (e.g. in the focus areas "Life Chances"; + Interactive Intelligent Systems). The post holder is expected to contribute to the research initiatives of the Department of Psychology (e.g. "Pathways from Trauma and Adversity to Mental Health", "Interpersonal Interaction and Perception", "Studying Dynamics of Physical Activity and Psychological Processes in Intensive Longitudinal Data"). A corresponding connectivity is an advantage.

The focus of teaching is on the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in the Department of Psychology (Psychotherapy Profile and Master's degree programme in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy) in the Department of Psychology. The university has a strong potential of three outpatient clinics in the clinical Master's programme: a psychotherapy outpatient clinic for adults, a psychotherapy outpatient clinic for children, adolescents and families and a neuropsychological outpatient clinic. All outpatient clinics are embedded in teaching and research outpatient clinics.

The department welcomes activities in the field of open science and reproducibility. The ability and willingness for interdisciplinary co-operation as well as gender competence are desired.

The Faculty considers gender equality to be an important task, which the future post holder will help to implement. Applicants are asked to take gender-related aspects into account in research and teaching as well as in the promotion of young researchers in a professionally appropriate manner.

In accordance with Section 36 HG NRW, recruitment requirements are a completed university degree in a relevant subject, special aptitude for academic work, which is demonstrated by the quality of the doctorate/Phd studies, pedagogical aptitude, which is demonstrated by relevant previous education or, in exceptional cases, determined in the appointment procedure, as well as additional academic achievements, which are evaluated exclusively and comprehensively in the appointment procedure.

Applications from suitable severely disabled persons and persons with equivalent disabilities are expressly encouraged.

Bielefeld University has received several awards for its successes in equal opportunities and is certified as a family-friendly university. It welcomes applications from women. This is particularly true in the academic field. It treats applications in accordance with the State Equal Opportunities Act. Family time is taken into account in the selection process.
