The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill a

Professorship in Translational Gastrointestinal Oncology (W2)

as soon as possible.

The Medical School OWL and the University Medical Center OWL (UMC OWL), with Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe, are an innovative medical location under development. We are seeking individuals who embrace this development process as an opportunity to actively create and shape research, teaching, and organization in collaboration with us. You will be significantly involved in implementing our model study program in human medicine and can contribute innovative ideas for teaching. Our career and research support programs, aimed at interdisciplinary cooperation, provide a wide range of development opportunities.

Qualifications required für the position include:

  • degree in medicine or natural sciences
  • relevant doctorate and additional scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • excellent scientific achievements demonstrated through relevant publications
  • experience in project management and experience in the successful acquisition of third-party funding
  • extensive experience in managing and developing research projects
  • excellent experiences and prior work in translational oncology of tumors of the upper gastrointestinal tract, colorectal carcinoma, and/ or pancreatic neoplasms
  • experience in research on tumor metastasis of the gastrointestinal tract, including biomarker research
  • excellent ability to collaborate in research, ideally demonstrated through relevant participation in national and international research associations
  • compatibility with the research profile of the Medical School OWL
  • extensive expertise in innovate teaching formats in the subject to be represented
  • active participation in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists

Desirable qualifications:

  • experience in establishing biobanks of study and tumor tissues

As the holder of this position, you will play a leading role in establishing the research area with a strong clinical focus on the campus of the Medical School OWL. The position is affiliated to the professorship of General and Visceral Surgery at the Department of General and Visceral Surgery at Klinikum Lippe at the UMC OWL. Your research will focus on translational studies of gastrointestinal tumor metastasis, including biomarker research. The professorship will strengthen teaching and the training of early-career researchers and will develop the infrastructure for translational gastrointestinal oncology on the university campus. The development of individual research priorities to strengthen the profile and a further expansion of the translational oncology spectrum is possible and expressly encouraged.

We expect close collaboration with the departments of the UMC OWL, with the medical-theoretical working groups of the Medical School OWL and the other faculties of Bielefeld University. Therefore, we are seeking an individual with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field, along with excellent communication and coordination skills.
