On the initiative of BGHS doctoral researchers, the Interdisciplinary Colloquium was established in the winter semester 2009/10 to strengthen scientific cooperation at the BGHS and to make use of its interdisciplinary structure.
The colloquium, which takes place regularly, differs from the usual format that is mostly chaired by a professor. In order to enable discussion of ongoing research topics outside hierarchical contexts, the colloquium is self-organised and chaired by the doctoral researchers. In this way, experience can also be gained in leading an academic colloquium.
So far, the colloquium has followed a fixed schedule: A text on the research project to be discussed is made available in advance of each session. This text is first commented on during the session by a historian and a sociologist. The subsequent discussion is open to all participants. The lectures and discussions will be held in English. The course of the colloquium can be adapted to the needs of the participants at any time.
All interested doctoral candidates are invited to attend the colloquium or to participate in the management of the colloquium.
