The Research Classes are the most important component of the study programme. They are based on the concept of collegial learning and enable the formation of a stable group of up to 15 doctoral researchers who work regularly over a longer period of time on methodological and theoretical issues related to their research projects, thus mobilising the academic expertise and support available in the group.
The Research Classes are led by professors or advanced postdocs. The format is characterised by its openness: The subject of a session can be the evaluation of source material, the theoretical conceptualisation of a research question or the discussion of entire chapters of a dissertation.
Each Research Class has a duration of 2 SWS (hours per week per semester). It can be offered as a regular course weekly or fortnightly or in one or more blocks during a semester. The Research Classes are usually offered and attended in four consecutive semesters.
