About us

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Health Literacy Research is a cross-faculty research unit. The aim is to streamline all research activities on health literacy at Bielefeld University. The focus is on both basic research and applied research. In the long term, the centre shall develop into a hub for discussing health literacy research, practice and policy as well as providing a home for early career researchers, post docs and senior researchers from Germany and abroad. 

The goals and tasks comprise:

  • to enhance Bielefeld University as a focal point for interdisciplinary research on health literacy
  • to advance basic and applied research on health literacy
  • to expand interdisciplinary health literacy research
  • to establish research on health literate organisations and systems as well health literacy-friendly settings in context of education and health
  • to ensure research and knowledge transfer to policy and practice
  • to initiate an international collaboration network and to strengthen collaboration with national partners
