The teaching and research field of Global Health adds an interdisciplinary and global dimension to the classical aspects of international health, most of which focus on infectious diseases. It deals with health and social, economic, political and cultural influences that cross national borders and thus have supraterritorial effects.
This includes the complex and interconnected effects of globalization on both developing and industrialised countries.
Global Health is thus an interdisciplinary field that incorporates aspects from the natural and social sciences (e.g. anthropology, sociology, political science, economics, peace and conflict research) in order to understand the social context and relationships and the measures that contribute to improving health worldwide.
