Health inequities and the determinants of health

In a society that is becoming increasingly multifaceted and diverse, questions of social inequality and its impact on health and medical care arise. With a primary focus on the social determinants of health, our studies include analyses of health care needs, epidemiological issues related to the burden of disease, and access to health care for disadvantaged population groups compared to the wider population.

We also evaluate the effectiveness, continuity and quality of health policy and medical measures under real conditions. Our methods include qualitative research approaches as well as quantitative methods from the fields of social epidemiology and health economics to illustrate the complexity of the relevant health care research issues in this field. Our research is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Centre for Health Education, the State of Baden-Württemberg and international institutions.
